Our response to God’s call is to be good neighbors to those who live in Enderly Park. We seek to be good neighbors by opening our doors to our neighbors. When we open the door, we first learn about our neighbors and build a relationship with them. Through listening and relationship-building, we walk with our neighbors in a strength-based style of ministry. Here are some specific ways that we try to be a good neighbor:
Every Wednesday night at 7pm, Bible study, snack, games, prayer
Snacks and companionship are provided to children and youth afterschool
Hyaets partners attend school functions, sporting events and other important activities of neighborhood youth
Any time that kids are out of school, Hyaets provides a fun activity for youth and children.
Peacemaking and conflict resolution activities throughout Spring Break
Students are paired with a mentor through various organizations. Hyaets partners also frequently run errands or finish tasks with children and youth by their side.
Once a year, Hyaets hosts a sleepover for girls. We participate in fun and educational activities together throughout the night.
Hyaets hosts a Superbowl party for the neighborhood kids.
Games, snacks, crafts, candy, and books are provided to children on Halloween.
We collect goodies and give away Christmas stockings to all the children.
Our friends from Hugenot Road Baptist Church host a craft making party for children so that they might make crafts for their family members as Christmas gifts.
There are too many summer activities to list. If it is a summer day, you can just about bet that we have something planned for the kids: pool, yuck day, movies, lemonade stand, field trips, back yard Bible club, and more!
We are in the process of connecting our neighborhood children with pen pals from around the state and further.
Neighbors are invited to join us for dinner at 5:30pm on any weekday except Thursdays. We typically have a whole slew of children to join us.
Children can come to our house to borrow recreation equipment: footballs, bicycles, Frisbees, sidewalk chalk, and more
We tend a community garden with the children’s help.
Each quarter Hyaets sponsors an extended activity for neighborhood youth and children as a means of encouragement, praise, and reward. Participation in these special activities is often based upon the fulfillment of certain requirements which provide some incentives for the youth to do well in school, act responsibly at home, help maintain the Hyaets houses, and participate in community service. Occasionally, a memory verse or Bible story is included as an incentive to think about God work and movement within our lives and beighborhood. Examples of these requirements include: household chores, attendance at youth devotional time on Wednesday nights, service projects, scripture memorization, and parental permission.
Past Incentive Trips have included camping in the mountains of NC, beach trips, and days at Ray's Splash Planet. Currently, quarterly incentive trips are as follows:
